2013: Year of the Dude
I’d post this tomorrow but I’ll be busy hitting the road with Nick, crashing/photoing with Lauren, and then continuing on to the Eastern Sierras to adventure for a few days.
Too often you hear folks winding down at the end of the year with a bunch of regrets or complaints about what’s transpired over the course of the previous 12 months. I’ve been guilty of it too. Always looking forward to the next calendar year like something actually resets in January. It doesn’t. But for the sake of argument and because everyone else is doing end-of-year stuff I wanted to say/post this, for posterity.
2013 was maybe the best year of my life, for reasons too many to list (but I’m gonna try to put a few here). My parents are healthy. I took two amazing trips with two incredible people, respectively. I drove to Alaska! And I took the Amtrak to PDX and Seattle and back. I finally met and became best best best homies with Jessica, who has been both an inspiration and a confidant. I dated a beautiful woman who treated me with respect and grace. I was flown home for Mother’s Day to photograph a friend’s incredible family and to spend time with my own mom. I landed a new job at Twitter that has me sending tweets from @Twitter and photographing celebrities. (What!?!) I added a bunch of amazing cameras to my arsenal and kept shooting film for fun. And other stuff. Lots of other stuff. My friends are the best, my parents are even better. Feeling blessed to be surrounded by so many good people. And fine, I’m looking forward to 2014.
Thanks to everyone who’s helped make 2013 so great for me. To those folks who are bumming on what 2013 meant for them: keep your chin up and keep close the people who inspire you.
